Andreá, the technical genius, who has always had a talent for building things, started his education in the coffee industry in 2009 at the age of 21 when he completed an apprenticeship at the “La Scala” factory in Venice, Italy. There he learnt to build, repair and refurbish many brands of commercial espresso machines. Since returning to Johannesburg, South Africa in 2010, he has worked as a technician, accumulating experience, serving the industry with his sweet sincerity that all our clients appreciate and assuring a high standard of service.
Since 2018, Andreá and I (Fulvia) have partnered under the company “Utopia Enterprises (Pty) Ltd”, joining forces, where he is the technical expert and I bring my trading and business experience to the table. Our integrity is the foundation for our business, our clients are not just a sale to us, we intend on growing their business as well as our own. We want them to achieve optimal results from their machinery and coffee, passing on the pure pleasure of the culture of coffee drinking, which is part of our culture in our home, and we are passionate about sharing it with them.
With the rapidly growing coffee culture and the endless demand for affordable commercial coffee equipment, we started buying second hand espresso machines in the local market to repair and sell, but we mostly found very poorly maintained machines. We then started importing coffee machines and coffee grinders in bulk from Italy that are in far better condition, as they are perfectly maintained. While our competitors flip coffee machines in the condition they buy them in, we have been cleaning, servicing and repairing each and every machine, which enables us to offer peace-of-mind and better quality at a competitive price point. We aim to sell no more than half the price of new.
We see major potential with the continuously growing pioneers of our local coffee culture, small and medium-size coffee Roasters, of which there are hundreds wanting to expand into offering coffee machine rentals. We guarantee them consistent and trustworthy supply and the best value for their money, with the assurance of technical support and spare parts to back the brands we sell. We cater for the seasoned serial restauranteurs who know from experience that as soon as new coffee equipment is unboxed and used it instantly devalues, therefore in most cases not worth buying. They also know that buying a new entry level budget machine is not going to perform in a busy location, so they prefer to buy high quality and high performance second hand Italian coffee machine brands, as this the best value for money.
We also cater to the new restauranteur who is frugally trying to buy the best quality on a budget to keep more money for cashflow and not overcommit in the beginning while they are still building a following of patrons and not yet doing the turnover to justify expensive purchases. Second hand coffee machines do not devalue like new. If they buy used coffee equipment and sell it a year or two later they will probably recover what they paid for it, so there is no risk. Our goal is to grow to the size of the biggest dealers of commercial coffee equipment in the coffee industry, except we will offer options that everyone can afford.
